Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
5 c Rolled (not instant) oats
1 c Raw wheat germ -- (available
-at natural-food stores)
1/2 c Sunflower seeds
1 c Honey or brown sugar
2 c Coarsely chopped pecans
1 c Powdered milk
-(1 3.2-ounce envelope)
1/2 c Sesame seeds
1 tb Vanilla extract
2 ts Salt
1 c Vegetable oil
1/4 c Water
1 c Dried apricots -- coarsely cho
1 c Dried apples -- coarsely chopp
1 c Dried prunes or dates
-pitted and chopped
1 c Dark raisins

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Combine all, or as
many of these ingredients as you can put together, in
a huge bowl. You will probably have use your hands to
turn the mixture over until it is thoroughly combined.
Divide between 2 jelly-roll pans and toast in the
preheated oven for 1 hour. Stir the ingredients well
every 15 minutes, turning them over to be sure that
nothing burns on the bottom. Remove the pans from the
oven and allow the mixture to stand for about 1 hour
until it has cooled completely. Pack into apothecary
jars, old-fashioned candy jars, or other airtight
containers. It keeps indefinitely---or at least 8
weeks, which is quite a long time. Makes about 16
cups. Source: "An Edible Christmas" Cookbook by Irena
Chalmers.
